Engineering Supervisor

Location: Aberdeen, AB22 8BD
Salary: £50k-£60k. Depending on experience + Benefits
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Spectis Robotics specialises in the sale, rental, design and development of robotic crawlers, underwater ROVs and inspection cameras. This position includes a company pension, and private health care.

Engineering Supervisor – The Role:

As an electronics engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of a wide range of robotics and related control systems including the electronics for crawlers, cameras, camera control systems.

Apart from new designs, you will also share responsibility towards ensuring smooth operation of the equipment rentals department. This would primarily involve carrying out basic operational checks to ensure that the equipment is functioning correctly prior to dispatch and after receipt, as well as any mechanical or electrical repair to PCB or module level depending on the system.

Engineering Supervisor – Candidate Specification:

Key Skills & Experience:

• Interest in electronics at a hobby or professional level
• Interest in working with crawlers, ROVs, cameras as well as related control systems
• Ability to identify faults and debug issues with electronics systems at component, PCB, system level using standard test equipment (multi-meters, oscilloscopes etc.)
• Ability to solder and rework through-hole, SMD components
• Understanding of electronics fundaments, circuit operation, basic components
• Hands on experience designing, testing, validating microcontroller-based PCB designs
• Experience working with Arduino, STM32, Teensy or similar microcontrollers
• Write documentation for requirements, certification, testing
• Self-starter with the ability to work under minimal supervision
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with clients, suppliers and team members

Desirable Skills:

• Experience working in the subsea, NDT industries or related fields utilizing ROVs, cameras
• Experience in the product design lifecycle – from concept to introduction into manufacturing
• Knowledge of analogue and digital circuit design
• Ability to understand existing circuit operation and modify as required
• Ability to select replacement electronic components due to obsolescence
• Familiar with tools such as KiCad, VSCode, GitHub for design development
